The Berne Chamber of Commerce partnered with Mayflower Cruises and Tours to offer a trip down the Rhine River.    Twenty-one people from the Berne area signed up to go on the cruise

One week from today, September 20th, the journey begins.   Several of us will meet in Berne to board a bus that will transport us to fly from Fort Wayne International Airport, while others will travel from other locations in the United States.   We will all meet in Amsterdam on the 21st to begin the adventure of a lifetime.

Once we arrive in Amsterdam we will transported to the ship and then will have the afternoon to explore the unique city.  Sunday we will explore the city on a canal boat cruise followed by a welcome reception and dinner on the ship.


On Monday, September 23 we depart Amsterdam to start our cruise down the Rhine River.  There are stops scheduled for many of the major cities along the way.  At each of these we will have the opportunity for a guided tour to explain the history and architecture of the town.

We will depart the ship in Basel and then spend several days in Lucerne, Switzerland before departing via Zurich, Switzerland to fly home.

Almost There! Friday, September 20 Day 1

  Here is our group on the bus leaving Berne.  We were at the Fort Wayne airport two hours before our flight left. It was a quick hop to Atlanta.  We are currently waiting for our flight to leave for Amsterdam.  We leave at 5:23pm and arrive in Amsterdam around 8am on Saturday morning (2am Indiana time). Seven us of left from Berne, while four more met us at the airport.  Others are flying from Grand Rapids, Indianapolis and other locations meeting in Amsterdam.   There will be 21 people that went through the Berne Chamber to purchase their trips.  There will be 162 people on the cruise ship all together, coming from parts unknown. We will have some time in Amsterdam to explore before our rooms are ready in the afternoon.  We will have a dinner on the ship on Saturday and then our adventure starts on Sunday morning, exploring Amsterdam by canal boat and then off on the ship to head towards the Rhine River.   This will truly be an adventure!!!

Amsterdam – Day 2 Saturday September 21, 2024

  It was a long overnight flight from the United States to Amsterdam.   We left Fort Wayne at 11:15 am and had a short hop to Atlanta.   We rode the tram to the International Terminal and boarded   flight DL72 with a departure time of 5:30pm.   We flew on a large Airbus that held close to 450 people.   As it got dark we tried to sleep, but most of us were lucky to catch only  a few hours of sleep.   The flight was close to 8 hours long.   With the time difference, we arrived in Amsterdam as the sun came up at 8am on Saturday morning (still 2am back home). We all cleared customs and grabbed our bags for the bus ride into town.   The Emerald/Mayflower cruise ship was parked east of Centraal Station.    We quickly checked in at the ship knowing our rooms wouldn’t be ready until later that afternoon.   Then a group of us took off to explore the city. Centraal Station Centraal Station is where most people come in to Amsterdam and all the streets and canals radiate off from it.   We
